RV Calanus is a 20m iroko on oak general-purpose research vessel for inshore waters with three laboratories, overnight accommodation for ten and day accommodation for 12 scientists and a crew of four.
Calanus has been used for research and teaching at the Scottish Association for Marine Science. A purpose build fishing vessel that could be modified for a variety of uses including as a liveaboard or as a diving platform/liveaboard. SAMS is looking to replace RV Calanus with a similar vessel for different scientific outputs.
She has worked in the Irish Sea, Loch Ness, the Inner and Outer Hebrides, Rockall and the Shetland Isles
The vessel's certificate is on hold for commercial use in UK waters and is usually coded by MECAL under the MGN280 and is due for renewal.
Last dry dock last August 2019.
